“You will never be completely at home again because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” (girlgi com)
|Who would have thought when I began this journey so many years ago, a shy boy graduating high school at 17, and going to work instead of college and university? Working at a multitude of things, sometimes 3 jobs at a time, studying home study courses whenever I finished work, and marrying at 19.|
After a short sojourn in Ontario, like most Newfoundlanders of the day, I returned to Pasadena (Nfld., not California) where when I got married had purchased a plot of land for litte located in a field. Subequently I bought a house that had to be moved, and moved it was unto this plot of land.
After a lot of soul searching about my plight of returning, one of my high school teachers, Nelson Bennett, encouraged me to participate in the board of a cooperative, which had been closed and was trying to be reopened.
This began my involvement in volunteering which expanded and grew over the years providing me education beyond my belief, experience beyond compare and fulfillment beyond any expectation.
It was the beginning of this adventure that has taken me around the world and brought me friendships that have endured since the beginning and a richness of life that money could never buy.
Today, I pay tribute to all of you that have mentored me, supported me, shared with me, and most of all believed in me, at times when I was lost and didn’t believe in myself.
I love you all and cherish your kinship, friendship, and contribution to my life. Thank you so much for what you have given me and showing me how to support others as you supported me.
My wish for this new year is that there will be an awakening to the reality of how important it is for each, and every one of us to share, support and love each other to build a better world and enrich the lives of others.
