A welcome and celebration from my students

Since the beginning of my participation in the Gambia in 2011 there have many students who have received the gift of kindness and help from teachers, sponsors and others who have played a role in tutoring, encouraging and caring.

I decided to do something different and a little unique by having current students collectively welcome our new sponsors, Doctors Justin and Genille French, and thank in their own way, all those who helped and supported them over the years.

There have other students during this time at all levels from nursery, primary, high school, college, and university. They all needed a hand-up, support, and care. I have shared photos, thank you messages and indicators of their evident progress.

I asked one of my long-term students who has been in my sphere since 2013 to share her story. Sainabou Chaw’s mom asked for help at that time, and I have been more than blessed to have shared her experiences as she progressed from high school through various work assignments and educational experiences in her career choice of Journalism.

Her success, and role model needs recognition and celebration. She has done very well; despite the obstacles she endured in the Gambia.

By sheer determination, hard work, and her very own ambition she has made a place in Gambian television. She will graduate journalism school on the fifth of February.

Most importantly, she has given back, and still helps with my students, and has established a charitable organization to help children – Child Care Gambia.
